1/4 kg cleaned prawns
For curry:
1 medium onion finely chopped
1/2 tsp turmeric powder
1 tbsp red chilly powder
3 kokums soaked in 6 tbsp water
Salt
For grinding:
1 medium onion chopped
1/4 cup grated dry coconut
4-5 cloves
1 inch cinnamon stick
1 tbsp coriander seeds
2-3 garlic cloves
2 cardamom
1 tsp fennel seeds
1 cup water
Oil
Method:
- Remove vein from each prawn and wash them with little salt and water.
- In a frying pan, heat 2 tbsp oil and saute onions for 2/3 minutes.
- Then add, cloves, cinnamon, coriander seeds, garlic cloves, cardamom and fennel seeds and saute till onion becomes golden brown.
- Add dry coconut and stir fry till it becomes brown.
- Turn off the gas and keep the mixture aside to become cold.
- Once done, add 1/2 cup of water and make a smooth paste in mixer.
- Heat 2 tbsp oil in frying pan and saute finely chopped onions till they become transparent.
- Add turmeric powder, red chilly powder, paste and salt.
- After 5 minutes, add remaining 1/2 cup water and bring it to boil.
- Add prawns, kokum water and cover the pan for 7/8 minutes.
- Prawns Masala is ready.
- Serve with Roti or Rice.
